 Encoding
and Authoring Explained
If you're not familiar with the
Authoring process for DVD, it's best
to break it into two steps that must
take place before the project can be
manufactured. Here is a brief
explanation:
Encoding - The encoding process
actually performs two very important
functions. The first of which is to make
sure your edited video content is going
to physically fit on a DVD, and the
second is to make sure your video
content is in a format that can be read
by standard consumer DVD players - be
that on a computer or on a DVD player
that's hooked up to your television set.
Authoring - After the video
content has been encoded we will Author
it. Through the use of sophisticated
Authoring software programs we can add a
variety of interactive features to your
project which may include menus, chapter
points, subtitles, closed captioning,
transitions, and more. The number and
complexity of features to be added does
have a direct impact on the cost of the
job, so this is something that is
discussed with clients at the quoting
stage of the project. Additionally, the
Authoring software also ensures that a
DVD compliant format is produced that
will work with standard DVD players.

We will accept your edited tape, hard-drive, or
video files for NTSC or PAL, and produce a master
for you that is ready for duplication or
replication. Output options include: DVD5;
DVD9; High definition content for standard
definition DVD discs; Auto-play or interactive
functionality.

Blu-ray
Encoding and Authoring -
As with
standard definition video, after your high definition video is shot and edited it
will need to be formatted properly for playback on Blu-ray
DVD players, so proper encoding and authoring is a
must. We will accept your high definition content on hard-drive
or tape for NTSC or PAL, and
produce a master for you that is ready for duplication
or replication. Output options include: BD25
(single layer); BD50 (dual layer); Auto-play or
interactive functionality.
